According to multiple financial job market reports, there is a current need for qualified accountants, such as those earning a CPA license. Starting salaries in the profession are approaching 70k, with average annual salaries near six figures. UMBC’s Accounting Certificate Program is designed to get you there!
“While earning your CPA license is challenging, it can also benefit your career. The average certified public accountant’s salary was nearly six figures in August 2024, according to Payscale. Additional compensation like performance bonuses and employee stock options can increase your earnings.”

Students in the program may work towards certificates in Accounting and Management Accounting. These certificate programs are designed to supplement a liberal arts or sciences major, and prepare students for careers in accounting, business and government. The combined benefits of a liberal arts or science major and an accounting certificate provide students with increased opportunities for employment and promotion, as well as for acceptance in graduate school and professional programs.
